Before We Do

For Akwasi and Mercy..

 

It is the night before our wedding- the night before the rest of our lives.

It has been a long road. I remember when we first met and how you thought I was a snob. I remember how excited I was at the thought of bumping into you on campus, at the very beginning. I remember when I asked you to take this step of faith with me and the dance I did in my heart when you said yes.

I remember thinking how beautiful your eyes are, and being thankful that I can always count on you. I remember laughing with you and at you. I remember you tolerating my many weaknesses and loving me all the same. And now I am looking forward to pledging my love for you before our friends and loved ones.

The last few days have been crazy- sorting out colours, buying shoes, all sorts of last minute arrangements…running around, buying tissue paper, getting your hair and nails done, getting the right shade of olive green for the corsages, going over the menu with the caterer one last time. Did I mention how beautiful you look even when you are stressed out?

You know that thing they call pre-wedding jitters? I have never had them- not at any point. I am marrying the woman I love, my very best friend. I can’t imagine a better wife and mother for our kids. I am not entirely sure what the future holds but I know that with you holding my hand and our eyes fixed on Jesus, we cannot go wrong.

So before everything else spirals out of control, whether the caterer is on time or not, whether the make up artiste picks up her calls or not, whether the flowers in your bouquet are perfect or not, I want to tell you this:

I do.

Today, tomorrow and forever.

With all of my heart.

  18. Waaaoooooo, This is sweet but Keni you didn’t write any piece for me on my wedding. I think is not too late you can still write a piece for me. I mean anything.
